Nancy Abens Artworks | Shells
I consider myself an amateur naturalist. Throughout the years and moves across country, I have hauled my boxes of shells, rocks, and bones with me. I like to categorize my collections-searching for the scientific names, genus and families. I do this with plants, birds, insects, and shells. The images here are part of that categorization. I am very influenced by the early natural historians and thought of them and early 19th century painters as I created these images. These pieces are archival digital prints in editions of 10, or photo transfers onto either painted wooden panels or onto 300 lb. watercolor paper.
